Our roots go right back to 1923 when Tom Hamerton commenced legal practice in Taneatua. In the 1920’s Taneatua was a thriving town with a population larger than that of Whakatane. The arrival of the railway line from Auckland in 1928 increased the business activity in Taneatua and Tom Hamerton remained in practice there until 1949. As the demographics of the Eastern Bay of Plenty changed Hamertons expanded into Whakatane, Kawerau and recently Opotiki.

Our team of experienced solicitors and qualified legal executives, with support from a number of experienced Law Clerks and Legal Secretaries, service a wide range of legal work for a significant and well established client base.

We are a full service law firm offering legal solutions in a wide range of areas including property and commercial law, family law, asset protection and dispute resolution and litigation and are the largest law firm in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. 

Hamertons is a keen supporter of Dairy Women's Network as well as the local community providing services as honorary Solicitors to various local Trusts and sponsoring Duffy Books in Homes and annual events such as the Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament and various other charitable events throughout the year.
